Frequently asked questions

What is offline conversion tracking?

It means telling an ad platform about sales or qualified leads that happened outside your website — on the phone, in your CRM or in a store — and connecting them to the ad click that started them. The platform then counts those conversions and can optimize your bids toward the clicks that really turn into customers.

Which ad platforms accept offline conversion uploads?

Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Meta (through the Conversions API), LinkedIn and TikTok all accept conversions from outside your website, each in its own format. This group has a builder or checker for each one.

Do I need a click ID to upload offline conversions?

For a classic upload, yes: the GCLID for Google Ads or the MSCLKID for Microsoft Advertising, saved from the landing page URL when the visitor arrived. Newer options can match on hashed customer details such as email and phone instead (Google’s enhanced conversions for leads, Meta’s Conversions API). The Click ID & UTM Capture Script Generator shows how to save the click ID in your forms.

How long do I have to upload an offline conversion?

It depends on the platform. Google Ads keeps a GCLID for 90 days, so the conversion must be uploaded within 90 days of the click (Google Ads Help). Microsoft Advertising also allows up to 90 days: a conversion uploaded more than 90 days after the last click is not imported (Microsoft Advertising Help). Each tool shows the limit for its platform and flags rows that are too old.

Is my customer data uploaded when I use these tools?

No. Files are read and processed in your browser. When a tool needs to hash emails or phone numbers, the hashing also happens on your computer.
